Sustainability and Our Beliefs

Artisan Craftsmanship Meets Timeless Sustainability

At Summerhouse, we believe beautiful objects should tell a story — one of care, craftsmanship, and respect for the natural world. Every piece in our collection is handmade by skilled artisans in Bali, where traditional techniques and a relaxed, organic aesthetic come together to create furniture and homeware that feel as good as they look.

Handcrafted in Bali

Our products are created by Balinese artisans who have inherited generations of woodworking, weaving, and finishing skills. In small, family-run workshops, they shape each item using time-honoured methods instead of mass-production lines.

This human touch adds a soulful quality that machine-made pieces can’t match: subtle variations in grain, soft curves that feel natural, and the relaxed elegance that defines Balinese design. From teak furniture with weathered finishes to rattan lighting and natural fiber textiles, every product carries the warmth and imperfections that make a house feel like a true home.

Sustainability at the Heart of Everything We Do

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us — it’s a core value guiding every decision we make.

We choose responsibly sourced materials: reclaimed teak, fast-growing bamboo, rattan from renewable plantations, and organic cotton and linen. Our artisans use traditional low-impact techniques that reduce waste and avoid harmful chemicals. Many finishes are natural oils and plant-based treatments that highlight the wood’s beauty while letting it age gracefully.

Producing in smaller batches in Bali helps us avoid the environmental cost of large-scale factory shipping and overproduction. We work directly with artisan partners to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and ongoing support for their communities.

Why Sustainability Matters to Us

We believe we have a responsibility — both to the beautiful island where our products are made and to the planet we all share. Bali’s natural environment and cultural heritage are precious, and we want to contribute positively rather than take from it.

Choosing sustainable, artisan-made products means:

  • Reducing your carbon footprint compared to mass-produced alternatives
  • Supporting skilled craftspeople and their families
  • Investing in pieces that are built to last for generations, not just a few seasons
  • Bringing natural materials into your home that improve wellbeing and create calmer, more beautiful spaces

When you choose Summerhouse, you’re not just buying furniture — you’re supporting a more mindful way of living.
